About PCCS
PCCS is a local, not-for-profit charity dedicated to providing practical support for people and carers facing complex, chronic health and mental health challenges. Known as Australia’s leader in Social Prescribing, PCCS designs innovative health and wellbeing services that make a real difference. Every program is developed with the client, carers, family, and friends at the centre, reflecting their commitment to optimising health and wellbeing within local communities.
Their award-winning programs, like Plus Social® and Social Rx®, use social prescribing to enhance wellbeing and strengthen local connections. Plus Social focuses on building participants’ support networks, confidence, and overall wellbeing, while Social Rx connects participants to local support services and community resources. Participants report better health, improved quality of life, stronger social bonds, and more fulfilling day-to-day living.
With service specialists who bring programs to life through their skills, local knowledge, and strong relationships with healthcare and community organisations, PCCS delivers these essential services from its two state-based locations in Sydney and the Gold Coast.
The Problem
After challenges with their existing MSP, PCCS were looking for a partner that could effectively support and simplify their IT. This included onboarding new staff, factoring in common devices and services accessed across both campuses, and rectifying issues like users accessing shared files through remote VPN or desktop sessions on devices that were not consistently up to date. In addition, some buildings were connected via an unreliable link, causing network issues for users. These challenges made the PCCS IT infrastructure complicated to manage.
The Solution
In 2020, mcrIT Conducted an IT Health Check to identify risks within the PCCS IT and networking environment. Following this assessment, mcrIT has addressed these issues through several key initiatives:
- In conjunction with PCCS, developed a process for adding / revoking users to ensure consistency across requests, allowing devices to be cleaned and ready for the next user without delay.
- Migrated all shared files to Microsoft 365, eliminating the need for remote access to an aging file server.
- Developed commonality in laptop devices across both campuses.
- Strengthened networking at both campuses, including the implementation of UPS, 4G backup, WiFi with guest segregation.
- Upgraded to NextGen security appliances.
- Enhanced the Microsoft 365 environment, significantly improving the security score to over 75%.
Outcomes
The solutions implemented have streamlined PCCS’s operations, ensuring that devices and services are consistent and up-to-date across both campuses. The migration to Microsoft 365 has improved file accessibility and security, while the strengthened networking infrastructure has provided more reliable connectivity. Overall, these improvements have enabled PCCS to better support their staff and clients, enhancing the delivery of their health and community services.
